Bring summer–skip the bloodsuckers

Summer is my season. I don’t mind the heat, as long as it doesn’t come with high humidity and inch toward the upper 90s. I love almost everything about summer—vacations, long days that allow me to enjoy the evenings outside, warm temps, summer flip-flops, reading by the pool, tropical iced tea, the flowers in bloom, and probably much more! Pretty much the only things I hate about summer are the bugs, mosquitoes, and spiders. Ugh. I’ve tried so many different ways to keep the mosquitoes away. Citronella candles make me sneeze. And I hate spraying chemicals on my skin or in the yard. Last year I tried a couple of more organic (and expensive) types of repellants and had only marginal success. I also bought a treated scarf. It’s not bad, but I feel like I’m breathing chemicals when I have it around my neck. This year, I’m buying an outdoor fan that oscillates. Hoping that will offer some relief! Do you have a favorite way to enjoy the outdoors and not get eaten alive?! Please share!

  1. Hi Darlene, I’m with you, Love summer and being outdoors, without the bugs, of course. 🙂
Avon used to sell a product called, “Skin So Soft” and we have used that a lot and it helps. Actually, any cucumber based products seem to help.
Now you have me thinking of new ones. I’m going to look into some the the Essential Oils and see what they have. I’ve heard they are safe to use, but will check in to that, as well.
    Have an awesome summer.

  2. I have a screened porch. Some bugs get in, but not many. And I’m happy to watch nature from afar, rather than getting my hands dirty gardening. To each his own.
